Personalize a campaign with customer details
A message that greets the customer by name reads like a personal note, not a broadcast. You personalize a campaign with variables: placeholders in the template that tkana fills with each customer’s own details when the campaign goes out.
Step 1: add variables to the template
Section titled “Step 1: add variables to the template”When you create the template, place the cursor in the Message Body where the value should go, then pick Name or Phone in Add Variable. The placeholder, such as {{name}}, is added to the text.
The placeholder only marks a spot in the message. You decide what actually fills it when you launch each campaign, so the same template can greet customers by first name in one campaign and mention their city in another.
Step 2: choose what fills each variable
Section titled “Step 2: choose what fills each variable”-
In Launch Campaign, pick the template. Its preview opens on the right, with each variable highlighted.
-
Click a highlighted variable. A list opens with the values you can use.
-
Pick one of the options below, or type a fixed text in the box at the bottom of the list and press Enter.
-
Repeat for every variable. A filled variable turns green in the preview.
| Option | What each customer sees |
|---|---|
| First name, Last name | The customer’s own first or last name from their profile. |
| The customer’s email address. | |
| Street, City, State / region, Country, Postal code | The matching part of the customer’s address. |
| Contact Name | The customer’s name as saved in your contacts. |
| Phone Number | The customer’s phone number. |
| Fixed text you type | The same text for everyone, such as a date or a discount code. |
Set a fallback for missing details
Section titled “Set a fallback for missing details”Not every customer has every detail on their profile. When you pick a customer field such as First name or City, a box called If this field is missing appears under the audience. Enter the text to use for customers who do not have that detail, for example “dear customer” for a missing first name. The fallback is required, so no customer ever receives a message with a blank in it.
Check before you send
Section titled “Check before you send”- The Launch Campaign button stays disabled until every variable has a value. If a variable is missing, the message Please fill all template variables appears under the button.
- The preview shows sample values, not a real customer’s details. For a real check, send the campaign to a small group of your teammates first.
- Keep your customer profiles tidy: the better your names and addresses, the fewer customers get the fallback. See Manage your contacts.
